Artists vs. BM.org

Some of you may or may not be following the latest petition to Burning Man regarding ART...

the We Have a Dream petition is at:
www.odeonbar.com/petition/1/petition.php

Larry Harvey's initial response to the petition is at:
www.burningman.com/art_of_b...onse.html

The battle commences under various topics at:
bm.tribe.net/

I would like to express to Jim and BM that the Sisterhood of the Burnin'Bush is in support of many of the ideas brought to light in the petition, but I wanted to run this request by you all first.

I look forward to hearing your responses.

Personally I am all for more art and more community.

Discussion is great but I couldn't support the original petition since I found the language, tone and generally divisive nature of it rankled me.

I'm glad that it's now moved on to a second phase that involves more doing and less bitching. I suggest to anyone on this list who is interested in seeing and creating more art on the playa to get involved with any of the groups that are working to support at. This includes volunteering with the Artery or even builidng the city and being part of the DPW or joining forces with borg2.

The next couple of meetings you can attend are an open house run by Mark and then one at the Odeon next week. Details for both below.

A call to all participants in Burning Man desert art. Make your voice heard regarding the development of Burning Man art. This will be a high level discussion by and for active participants who are interested in making playa art great. What is the purpose of the community art? Where do we go from here? How can we improve it? What is the relationship between community and self reliance?
Burning Man's success has created new challenges of scale and focus, particularly in the art on the playa. The problems have been discussed within the community at length already and are widely known. Participants should be familiar with BM arts unique characteristics, and the playa art process beforehand. Check the BM website and other readily available references.
    Think about solutions.
BM senior staff are cordially invited to attend and listen to the artists and and engage in a meaningful dialog with them. Artists with experience in desert art are especially encouraged to share their knowledge. Let's evolve the art to the next level. We've all worked too hard to let it collapse in a heap now.

      Hey all,

I'm in the Bay Area now and might attend Sunday's meeting/mud-flinging/art discussion etc.

I've been generally avoiding all things BM-related lately (emotional overload after this year's DPW,) but the more I hear about what's been going on lately, the more interested I am in participating in this session.

It'll be (hopefully) interesting to hear everyones' concerns and of some creative solutions, particularly for those persons currently dealing with the politics of art production.
