Where are all the Art Cars?

Where are all the Art Cars? I was at Burning Bush this weekend and there was VERY FEW Art Cars out on the Playa this year.

I was super bummed out for the people in GERLACH. We stopped in town on the way out on July 4th and kids and families were lined up along the road waiting to see Art Cars (someone put out flyers/and it happened last year). We were eatin' in the cafe and everyone was discussing - whether they were coming? By 2:45 people started packing up to leave. No Art Cars. I was super bummed for the kids - sitting out their with their
flags etc.

I also have not had much response back from people who are planning to bring out their Mutant Vehicles for the SHOW N' TELL on July 25th. www.bayareamotorclub.com/Events.html
I had a lot more response for the April event.

Is it because everyone is WAY TO BUSY working on their cars?, or waiting to see if Burning Man approves their plans etc. for cars before even starting? Does anyone have any feedback to what's so diffrent in the world of Art Cars this year? I am curious....

P.S. GOOD THING TO KNOW: The Gas station in Gerlach has now made thier GAS PUMPS 24 HOURS!!!!!!

a guess: getting their cars to the playa (or anywhere) is nearly twice as expensive as it was last year.

and are you talking about bruno's texaco in gerlach, or the empire store?

Those of us out at No Man made it out... we of course added an hour to the set time to account for playa time. The fish car, the cyberbus and the stretch limo with the accordian playing female Elvis did come and do a 'parade'. We were also very disappointed that no one from BB came out to the event that they had advertised. The Slug bar car would have come if it weren't for a fried starter motor. We were welcomed at both bars once we stopped and even served up a round of drinks by a man at the bar. We too were told about the disappointment from those in Gerlach and that the park had been full of people.

I was also disappointed to find out from the guy that I got a ride with who is on the BB tribe that he didn't really want to go to BB because of some rather negative traffic on that list from one person in particular venting and saying that anyone that hadn't been before wasn't welcome. We ended up going out to the usual playa and just deciding to stay with friends there and had a blast.

Hope that BB was just as good for all those who were out there. Juplaya, No Man, a wedding camp and another camp near No Man were all rockin' all weekend with a lot of fun and connection, hot springing, lounging, craziness and fun going on.

    Can't wait til next 4th....

My apologies for the disappointing parade... I believe all involved did what they could, when they could... I am also bummed to hear that locals and kids alike were disappointed... Playa time and break downs definitely added to the mix-up.

Last year worked out better because the parade kicked off the weekend. For any art cars at the Blue Wing site this year, driving to Gerlach on sunday posed a hellasious nightmare - the sand was extremely thick & slippery on the roads due to the excessive traffic...

Next year, we will only have a parade if it can kick off the weekend like last year (guess I need to check a calendar!) At least we can say it was the Biggest Little Parade in NV... ha ha

I appreciated seeing the cars that showed! Tardy is as good as any in playa time... Thanks!

      Certainly not your fault Lisa.

I think a lot of people stayed away because of some various rumors going around related to conflicts with BM, Cops and other disettling news.

There seems to be a lot of disrest in a lot of the sub-communities right now, I hope the air clears?
